Haydon Roberts Marks Reading Debut with Goal in Barnsley Draw
January 25, 2026Reading Football Club is pleased to announce the permanent signing of defender Haydon Roberts from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal and brings versatility to the backline, able to play across the defence but primarily operating on the left.
A product of Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy, Roberts impressed at youth international level with England Under-17s and Under-18s, and made seven cup appearances for the Seagulls. He gained valuable first-team experience on loan at Rochdale and Derby County in League One before joining Bristol City permanently in 2023.
Over the past two seasons, Roberts has been a regular for the Robins, making 62 appearances in total, including 13 so far this season, most recently coming off the bench in Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town.
Roberts is available for selection and could make his Reading debut against Barnsley on Saturday, pending EFL approval.
He becomes the third new signing of the January transfer window for the Royals, following Will Keane and Ryan Nyambe.
