Cameron Byrne-Hughes Stars as Manchester United U18s Reach Premier League Cup Final
March 4, 2026Cameron Byrne-Hughes played his part as Manchester United Under-18s secured an impressive 4-1 victory over Oxford United to progress to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals.
United delivered a dominant performance at the Kassam Stadium, with first-half goals from Albert Mills and Gabriel putting the visitors firmly in control before the break.
Despite a bright start from Oxford, Byrne-Hughes remained composed between the posts, helping to steady his side as United grew into the game and began to dictate proceedings.
The breakthrough came via a set-piece, as Mills powered home a header from close range, rewarding United’s early pressure. Gabriel then doubled the advantage in style, striking from distance to give the young Reds a commanding half-time lead.
United continued their momentum into the second half, with Chido Obi adding a third after sharp attacking play. Oxford responded through Josh Holton just past the hour mark, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished.
Substitute Noah Ajayi sealed the result with an excellent individual effort, confirming a deserved 4-1 win and a place in the last eight of the competition.
Byrne-Hughes’ assured presence and distribution throughout the match contributed to United’s control, underlining his continued development within the academy setup.
Manchester United Under-18s will now face either Sunderland or Brighton & Hove Albion in the quarter-finals, with the tie scheduled to be played by 14 March.
